hello everyone
sorry for I didn't submit my daily report yesterday.
maybe i still need sometime to clarify my position in this project and what I want to donate.
these days we spent a lot of time on hanging out with youth network.
Tzu-Yao joined the International youth climate policy team.
Charlene is planning to form a young people's action platform in Asia.
maybe you're interested in what kind of role Asian youth play in such an international conference.
according to my observing, young people are still very region exclusive in someway.
all of us are eager to involve in each other, to form a big young power for a bigger impact on something we care.it sounds workable.
however, the difference of culture background and language still left a long way to go for all of us.
you can't imagine how language a big problem in international negotiation.
We even discussed if we need translator.
No matter which continent we belong to, when we are minority, it's always difficult for them to feel involved.
Last night, after the Asian youth meeting, an Australian girl (zeng me)came to announce a big issue now happening in their International youth network. They decide to launch a upper level activity to enlarge their voice.
they want us Asian youth to join their meeting.
This conference was taking place in a night bar, at 20:30, with smoke and beer and chip and hip-hop music around.
the International youth network was assembled mainly by USA(more than I imagined), UK, AUS, CA, India(only one girl but she is one of the heads)
on the meeting last night, people from German, Norway, Sweden, Singapore, Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan are invited.
(maybe I lost some, like Turkey or Indonesia I'm not sure)
English speakers tried their best to remind everyone speak slowly and clearly, If anyone don't understand anything we can interrupt anytime. They kept emphasizing this. But guess what happen next?
all the delegate from Europe or Asia were quiet. still only those English speakers were talking.
maybe those scream, excitement and those American kidding are still let me feel uneasy.
I don't know whether should I enjoy in those social activity. and acting like a American.
I felt sleepy, then I escaped.(shame on me)
except for the language problem, I don't even fully understand what happen in this conference this days.
what kind of important issue are discussed? what kind of unfair decision are making?
anyway, our next generation is still very potential and optimistic. at least there are not so much discrimination.(hopefully)
if I want to join COP15 next year, I think I will,
1. Find one specific issue I really concerned, and try to understand the whole situation, then running a strategy for it.
2. Train English listening and speaking.
3. Join in át least one NGO's activity continually
According to my observing(again)
the most important thing in international conference is networking.
one networking by one another. aimed to form a bigger power, bigger impact.
for people who are interested in local practical activity, I don't think this conference can give you what you want.
you can go to visit something more practical or concrete.
and you might get more from this kind of work.
what this conference mean to us? other young people's activity model?
I think we can learn more on Internet. (maybe)
but it will surely be a good chance to know how a international conference are working.
